State of Minnesota Court of Appeals Immediate Law Clerk Opening The Court of Appeals reviews cases appealed from the district court. The Court is divided into rotating three-judge panels. Sixteen judges serve on the Court of Appeals. The Court sits in the Minnesota Judicial Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. Oral arguments are heard throughout the year. An immediate shared law clerk position exists with Judge Peterson, Judge Amundson, and Judge Willis. The opening is to complete the current court term, which will end August 13, 1999. This is a short-term position, with the option of continuing the assignment until August of 2000. The primary duties of the law clerk are to analyze and research cases on appeal. The clerk accepts a position to work closely with a judge but is considered to be a clerk of the court as well. Bench memos prepared by clerks are for the whole court. Clerks listen to oral argument in their assigned cases and, often, in other cases of interest or importance. Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited law school is required to begin employment. Professional skills and scholastic proficiency ar both given considerations. Strong writing and research skills are essential; writing for the law review, for a law journal, or for moot court, is very helpful. Selection of law clerks is made after application have been reviewed and personal interviews have been conducted by the Court.
