About Us

Want to know more about Rainbow Resort? Here's a brief history of our resort, from it's founding until today. We also occasionally have job openings at Rainbow Resort. You can find more information on our current openings below.

Building the Resort

RAINBOW RESORT was founded by Al and Gladys Schumann in the late 1950's.  The property, when purchased in 1956, was a rustic hunting camp with a couple one room hunting shacks.  There was no electricity, indoor plumbing or other modern conveniences.  Family and friends built the resort from the ground up.  Gladys picked the name "RAINBOW RESORT" after the beautiful rainbows which would appear on the lake after a rain.  In 1958, RAINBOW RESORT opened for guests. The resort consisted of four newly built cabins and a log building which was refurbished and used as a lodge.  Six generations of family members have lived and worked at RAINBOW RESORT.  Many generations of families and friends have visited over the years.  We welcome you to come and create many wonderful memories during your stay at RAINBOW RESORT.

A Family Affair

For eighteen years, friends and neighbors frequently met at Rainbow Resort lodge. The garden tractor and its trailer were often seen hauling more kids than garbage. Families would come back year after year to spend their vacations at the resort and enjoy the simple pleasures of nature.

In 1976, after eighteen years of operation, Al and Gladys sold the resort to non-family members. In 1997, the resort was again purchased by the Schumann family. We welcome you to come and stay with us and enjoy the simple pleasures of nature. We'll have the coffee pot on and share some fishing stories.

Jobs at Rainbow Resort

We have staffing needs year-round including guest services, information technology, activities director, marketing, grounds maintenance, ski trails groomer and housekeeping to name a few. We do have some summer housing for summer staff.  This is an ideal opportunity for students to work part time at a resort and/or to live and work at a resort for the summer.  We have had internship/externship positions for students in the past and are open to working with students on such opportunities.  Please, contact us at 218-734-2241.
