Cross-Country Skiing

Enjoy 23 kilometers of onsite skiing trails in the big woods groomed for classic and skate skiing and providing ski in, ski out access from the lakeside lodging.  The ski trails range from flat terrains for beginners to roller coasters that challenge more experienced skiers.  Amenities include a heated ski waxing facility, sauna, a recreation center and a lodge with hot food and beverages.  For current ski-trail conditions, see our TRAILS page.   The SkinnySki.com website has trail reports for the Detroit Lakes area in Northwest Minnesota (NW MN).  There are several ski trail systems in our area including Itasca State Park.

Snowmobiling

Rainbow Resort has long been a beloved destination for snowmobiling enthusiasts. Our resort is located on a network of hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobile trails. Experience the thrill of gliding through picturesque winter scenery as you explore the trails. Ride to Itasca State Park, Shooting Star Casino, Detroit Lakes, Park Rapids and beyond.  Our cabins are fully winterized, and we provide snowmobile supplies such as gas (premium & regular), oil, belts. trail maps & hot food!  Relax in the sauna, play games and watch the big games on tv in the recreation center and the lodge.  Our lodge offers a scenic overview of the lake, where you can indulge in hot food and warm drinks.  For an update on winter & trail conditions see our trails report on our TRAILS page.

Ice Fishing

Little Bemidji Lake and other area lakes have good ice fishing.  The lake is very accessible and the water clear.  See our fishing photos on the EVENTS page.

Snow Depth

Snow depth can be found by going to the NOAA snow depth map and selecting the current date   Rainbow Resort is located in Becker County north of Detroit Lakes & Park Rapids at roughly 47.1 North & 95.575 West. (On the NOAA map, Rainbow Resort is in northern Becker County below the vertical, east-west boundary line separating Mahnomen & Clearwater counties)

Other Winter Activities Include:

WEST ITASCA Winter Resort

In winter Rainbow Resort operates as WEST ITASCA Winter Resort, your winter destination resort!  Our area is noted for early and heavy winter snow.  Located on the western slopes of the Laurentian Divide west of Itasca State Park we will often have snow when 20 miles or so away there is little or no snow.  Elevation is over 1800 feet in some places such as Strawberry Mountain which is 1850 feet.   We will keep you posted of trail conditions and snow depth throughout the winter with trail reports & photos and links to the NOAA snow depth maps.
